Here is a Low calorie south Indian snacks churumuri made from puffed rice. It is also know as murmura. It is consumed as a snacks in many Indian households. Murmura is good for weight loss, as it is extremely light. It helps you to get rid of those deposited fats and even tasty snack can be made in less time.

Churumuri is one of the popular street food of Karnataka. Basically churumuri is a street style snack recipe of puffed rice mixed with roasted peanuts, grated carrots, tomato, onion, spices and coriander leaves. It is one of the tasty, lip – smacking snack recipe, which can be made easily. Churumuri is also called masala mandakki in our Karnataka. Most importantly, it is a vegan, gluten free, low calorie healthy snack. Definitely churumuri is a good, healthy snack for those who wants to manage their weights.

Further in different parts of India, varieties of snacks can be prepared from puffed rice. Among those Jhal muri and Bhel puri are the commonly known variations. compared to these 2 snacks, the making of churumuri is very simple and any one can make this snack easily. It hardly takes 5 to 10 mins. Moreover for churumuri, we don’t need spicy & sweet chutney unlike bhel puri. Also you don’t even need boiled potatoes. It is an instant, tasty snack will be loved by all age groups.

In addition to this, while making churumuri always use fresh puffed rice. If you wish, can roast the puffed rice for a minute and then mix with other ingredients. This makes the murmura to be crisp for longer time. Also don’t add too much chopped tomatoes. Because the puffed rice get soft very quickly. So it is better to add tomatoes while serving. Here the amazing taste & flavor  comes from the coconut oil. If you don’t like coconut oil, then skip it and use any oil suitable for you. Serve this churumuri immediately once you prepared, otherwise it will be soggy & soft too quickly

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp peanuts
  • 1.5 cup puffed rice / mandakki
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp carrot grated
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp bhujia sev
  • ½ tsp sugar optional
  • ½ tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  • Firstly heat a small pan on moderate flame and add coconut oil.
  • When the oil is hot enough, add peanuts and roast for 2 mins until peanuts turns to brown color.
  • Turn off the heat and keep it aside.
  • Meanwhile take a wide bowl and add puffed rice.
  • Then add roasted peanuts, salt and red chilli powder.
  • Further add finely chopped onion and tomato.
  • Similarly add grated carrot and finely chopped coriander leaves.
  • Also add little sev and sugar (this is optional).
  • Finally squeeze a little lemon juice and give a good mix.
  • Now the tasty & low calorie healthy snack churumuri is ready to serve!
  • Enjoy this churumuri with a cup of coffee or tea.
